Hi All,
My name is Dan and i've been enjoying getting into the Wreck age.
I have a split interest in Wreck age as many of you probably do.
One. I love painting and sculpting minis. i've been at it for 17 years now. Starting with tester's paints. (got high as a kite on that stuff.). I never really got into war gaming as I was one of two people in my town (a small island) who was into the hobby. That friend then moved away so the competition side of it never really stuck. I tried playing Mordeheim for a brief moment but the rules baffled me and I was soundly defeated by skaven with little slings. About five years ago I started sculpting miniatures. I naturally started out with post-apocalyptic minis for a game I had created. (my little brothers learned to play in 10 minutes and the hippies that i lived with even understood it and loved it). Anyway, I was lucky enough to hook up with On The Lamb Games a 'Micro brew' mini company starting out down in florida. I've been happily sculpting and learning with them now for almost two years. I have sent a sculpt to the Wreck age and we'll see if its a good fit. I just want to comment that I think its so cool that so many new companies have started and are surviving in this hobby. When I was 15 I would have given minis like 5 more years before they were totally consumed by video games. 15 years later, not only do the big companies still survive but a wave of hundred of liitle companies have risen to challenge them. Good job guys for being brave.
Two. The Apocalypse! My other 'Hobby' I'd say is preparing for a social collapse of somesort. It's kinda more of a life long philosophical conversation I have with myself and society. It's much more then beans and guns and bomb shelters. It's actually not like that at all. More like 'How am I to live' in a world I don't fundamentally agree with and how can I prepare for the hopeful 'start-over' that the 'Apocalypse' provides? This ranges from; wild-edibles, traditional farming techniques, jam making, to reading about Catholic Distributist theories of community, to shying away from the fanatical love of technology, to yes, owning a few guns. It's very funny that my love of minis and my 'other' beliefs seem to coalesce often.
Well, anyway, Its nice to meet you all and you have some very interesting ideas about this coming Wreck Age.
Dan
